well.. hasn't intel pretty much set that as the future standard? It somewhat makes sense... at least the case won't be top heavy. heh.

Intels days of calling the shots has ended...

BTW is going to be an Intel only standard until they get their heat problem fixed. AMD hasnt planned on BTX,

I bet it won't be this year. Anand's first look at Computex showed surprise at the lack of BTX form motherboards showcased there. I'm not doubting that it won't make it to the standard eventually seeing as its superior, just will take a while, especially with Intel's recent desktop processor cuts.

I'll be on the ATX platform until they pry the board away from my cold, dead hands.

It's all up to the motherboard manufacturers, and so far, nobody's shown too much of *anything* for BTX. Intel's pushing it full steam ahead, but they seem to be the only ones. We'll have to see if that's enough clout to make it quickly become an industry standard, or if we're going to have two competing motherboard platforms for a while...

Best guess from me? You'll start seeing them widely available by the end of the year, but they won't be mainstream until next summer.

BTX, Intel isn't in a position to call the shots anymore, people want AMD, Intel is just going to have to figure out how to redesign their magma-hot processors :)

edit: and just like what was said above, reverse ATX is oddly similar to BTX......

read the writeups on BTX. there cannot be a mobo that adheres to the BTX standard for the AMD Athlon 64bit series processors. the placement of the CPU (with built in memory controller) is too far from the RAM.

Yup that pretty much sums it up for me,nothing wrong with ATX.

I like my case & i dont want to have to go and buy a new one.

There really isn't a compelling reason to switch to BTX for AMD, plus the archetechical problems that others have mentioned (onboard memory controller puts strict restrictions on trace length, and BTX's positioning of memory and CPU make it a no go). I predict Jan05 at the earliest, if ever.
