That's kinda interesting. I mean, if you dropped a 50 megaton warhead and detonated it while it was in the hurricane, wouldn't the extreme heat and shockwave effectively vaporize the clouds and disrupt the currents which keeps the hurricane spinning around the eye?

I'm thinking the amount of energy in said warhead wouldn't even approach the energey in a cat 5 hurricane. Kinda like an atmospheric burb and nothing more.

Actually, probably not... I think hurricanes put out 10 megatons per 20 min or something in that area. Also, the radiation would kill 100s of thousands. :

:(

Yeah, lets vaporize water vapor!

A small thunderstorm has the power of about 40 average nukes, IIRC.

Good luck with your plan :p

Yeah, and the radiation could spread with the massive winds in the hurricane and make us all sterile!! w00t!!

But seriously, take it from someone who lives in the south, that is one hell of a fishfinder!!!

Some people that played with Transformers never really got over the fact that they weren't real.

Instead of "More than meets the eye" how about "Stick your finger in your eye?"

This way you cannot see the screen to post more crap threads like this.

Yeah, lets vaporize water vapor!

I hope you were being sarcastic. When I said vaporize, I meant actually splitting the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. Which can happen in extreme heat... like 1 million F. And I realize it's a stupid idea cause of the radiation. I was merely just asking whether it would actually do anything to the storm.

But hey, look on the bright side...Fishermen could see the fish due to the radioactivity and we could solve the world's food shortage because of the fish fry!!

Interestingly enough, it was actually proposed back in the '60s when the US did some research and experiments in hurricane modification. Apparently, the experiments didn't amount to much (they never nuked one, fortunately), but weather modification research continues. The US is on the forefront of hurricane modification technology, and there are some interesting proposals out there for ways to control them.

The technology is still pretty iffy though, and the problem is that if you screw up and send the hurricane, stronger than it was, into some small island and wipe it out, that's a big problem.

I saw a really cool briefing on weather modification technology recently. :)

Hmm...To CUBA, perhaps? *shifty eyes*

The clouds formations extend at some 200 or more miles. However, I think you could disrupt a cyclone with a nuke (but I don't know, some things are too difficult to be understand by intuition)

1) Build a giant glass box that goes around the Gulf of Mexico.

2) hide the box under the water

3) when a hurricane enters it, raise the box to capture the Hurricane

4) raise up the submerged power generating windmil(huge one) in the middle of the hurricane

5) Profit

Don't Destroy, Employ!
