time for some new speakers, any ideas helpful

Budget? Room dimensions?

There are tons of good speakers out there and in the end only you can decide which ones you like.

The Radialstrahler's are so gorgeous...unf.

I'll propose one of my favorites...a little more expensive but easier to integrate into a room's decor: Dynaudio Evidence Temptations.

If you have access to a table saw and a router (or a rotozip) and you're willing to get your hands dirty, I highly recommend you consider building your own speakers. There are some excellent designs, including crossover designs, over at PartsExpress.com (check their speaker-building forum while you're there). For $150 plus some elbow grease, you can build a set of fronts that will compare favorably against commercial speakers costing $800 or more.

In particular, their projects showcase has some great designs complete with parts lists.

For the price, it's hard to beat the D III

The difficult thing is you really should listen to many, many speakers and find what you like.

I'm all for DIY, but don't recommend building/buying something you've never heard before.

Best part is if you take some of your favorit movie/tunes (and make sure it is a decent recording) auditioning speakers can be loads of fun. You can listen to speakers costing thousands of dollars a piece to get a taste.

Then you can listen to speakers in your budget and decide what you like. They all are very different.
