I'm about to buy a new PC.
My father one is going to die and as usual i will give mine to him and buy a new one.

This computer will be used for:
Everyday task.
Lineage 2
Premiere
After Effect
Photoshop
and some audio program (Audition, Nuendo etc.)

I already have a good Case, Antec P180 and I will keep it.
For processor I was thinking the Quad Q9550. I know that with games Dual Core atm are the best but playing is not the only thing i need.
The videocard i'm going to is the PowerColor HD 4870 PCS+ a little OC version.
I already have some HD but i will take a couple of the new WD Caviar Blue WD6400AAKS SATA2 7200rpm 16MB, that seem to be one of the best of the moment (a part from raptor that will be too expansive for me) and I will make a Raid.
Now the hard part (for me)
MotherBoard and RAM.
I don't know atm which chipset will be the best with an ATI card and I don't know if take DDR2 or DDR3 Ram. DDR3 ram seems to have so little advantage to good DDR2 that many website suggest to stay with quality DDR2. Anyway 4 gb ram.

So i need suggestion for all and most for MB / Ram.

Also I'm thinking to go 24'' and take the iiyama ProLite B or E2403WS-1.

Than a good cooler and a PSU and I will be fine.

Thank you in advance for any suggestion.

I'm glad to see that your PC will be used for real applications...

It's still a bit outdated blain.

I'd go with this ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231145
If I'm not mistaken there will be a new stepping of the q9550, e0, and people believe it to be a very good overclocker, not sure if it's worth waiting for, especially if you're not overclocking.
This mobo probably has everything you need: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813131299 but most p45 mobo's will do just fine
PSU: usually im not the one to recommend overkill PSU's, but there are some good deals worth considering, like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139006 You could also grab a 550vx for $75 after rebates.
I'd probably get this HD4870: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814129113 because it's the cheapest, and because it has lifetime warranty

Unless you're overclocking I would just stick to DDR2-800 since you can find it for about $20 less than DDR2-1000.

The PSU Mark linked is a good deal, but it's not necessary for what you're doing. Unless you see a big graphics card upgrade in your future, I'd stick to the 550VX he also recommended, which may be cheaper at buy.com.

GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS5 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX

Is the same board with just 2 SATA input more?

My last choice. Please tell me what you think about it.

Antec P180 CASE
Corsair 750TX PSU
Gigabyte GA-x48-DS4
Intel Quad Core Q9300
Mushkin DDR2 1066 2x2Gb
PowerColor HD 4870 PCS+ Graphic Card
2x WD6400AAKS Hard Drive
Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU Cooler
Samsung SM-S223Q DVD Burner
Iiyama B2403WS 24'' Monitor

Thank you

Why the much more expensive mushkin ram?

Why the expensive mobo? I'd rather go for a p45 mobo, and get a q9450... Or just save yourself some money ...

I agree with Marc - now that P45 is out, X48 doesn't really offer you a whole lot. If you're overclocking go for DDR2-1000 if it's cheaper. If you're not overclocking, stick to DDR2-800.

I was just thinking that the 1066Mhz Ram would be faster. But if I'm wrong i will go for something 1000Mhz like the one you posted. (Difference is 30 Euro)
I'm in Europe so is not that ii will find exactly the same thing you find in NewEgg.
As for the M/B I was thinking to go Xfire to have the possibility to upgrade my rig and buy another Video Card when needed.
The price difference between the Gigabyte GA-x48-DS4 and Asus P5Q Pro P45 Sockel 775 is about 40 Euro. You think is not worth the price? If so I will go with a good P45 like the asus one. I noticed that many Gigabyte P45 mb have not Firewire...

Yes I'm going to overclock. I'm not an expert but I think after taking some information I will be able to get something out.

Thank you so much for your help.

P.S. What do you think about the monitor? Any other suggestion on that?

Haven't heard of the brand, but that happens sometimes when buying across borders. I'm not really a monitor aficionado anyway...I'm still playing on a 19" CRT I've had for five years.

The 1066 RAM isn't going to be faster in any way that will be noticeable to you. For a 30 Euro difference there's no doubt in my mind that you should get the DDR2-1000.

Crossfire is not an upgrade path. The problem is that by the time you get around to putting in the second card faster GPUs are out that will beat a dual-card setup from the previous generation. For example, an 8800GT handily beats two 7800s in SLi. With a single-card system you also save money on the power supply and the electric bill as well as reducing the heat generation of the PC.
Even if you do want to throw in a second video card P45 can do Crossfire just fine as long as you buy one like the P5Q Pro that has two PCI-e x16 slots. According to MarcVenice, who moderates this forum, the benchmarks that showed serious performances losses on P45 have been discredited.

Where in Europe are you, out of curiosity?

Thank you for the help.
I'm from Italy but I will buy my component in Germany or France, due to a new law about purchase in the European Community, possessor of a VAT number that buy outside they country (but in EU) can have tax free purchase. So -16% on my buy. This wole PC (excluded case) will cost me 1100 Euro with muschkin and x48 mb. around 1000 euro with other mb/ram.
Iiyama is one of the most important monitor builder even if it is not well known.
Always done some of the best LCD and CRT but the are very poor stylish.
But their performance/price are almost impressive. And seem to be the faster Monitor atm out. So, one of the best gaming LCD for litte more than 300 euro.
Can you suggest me some other model or brand apart the Asus P5Q just in case i can't find it here?
Thank you.

Think of memory speed ratings like those on tires for a car...

M ? up to 81 mph (130 kph)
N ? up to 87 mph (140 kph)
P ? up to 93 mph (150 kph)
Q ? up to 99 mph (160 kph)
R ? up to 106 mph (170 kph)
S ? up to 112 mph (180 kph)
T ? up to 118 mph (190 kph)
U ? up to 124 mph (200 kph)
H ? up to 130 mph (210 kph)
V ? up to 149 mph (240 kph)
Z ? speeds above 149mph (240 kph)

If you're driving a Grande Punto, you can use "V" (up to 240 kph), rated tires.
But the "V" rated tires won't make your Punto get up to 240 kph.

If you're driving an F50, you can use "S" (up to 180 kph), rated tires.
But the "S" rated tires will eventually hold your F50 back from reaching 310 kph, as the tires shred along the road.
