Thinking about getting some new glasses and I'm going to head out to the optometrist soon ... anyone know what info. I'll need aside from the prescription to order glasses online?

I would never order glasses online. How do you know if they are even going to fit well? Or look like on your face?

make sure to get your pupillary distance (I think that is spelled correctly).... anyway, it is the distance between the centers of your eyeballs. My optometrist doesn't include it with his Rx's

I've ordered contact lenses online, but I don't think I would ever order prescription glasses online as they probably need some adjustments when you first get them.

The place I order from gives measurements of the frames, IIRC. Not as foolproof as actually trying them on before buying, but I'm more than willing to accept that trade off for the savings.

For example, the glasses I'm wearing right now cost me $25 or so, compared with >$250 for my most recent "retail" pair from several years back. No complaints here...

I went the halfway between route and tried out frames around town then ordered them online for about 30% less. I don't think I'd be comfortable just ordering random frames online based on a picture.

You might need the seg height also if you are ordering a multifocal lenses such as bifocals, trifocals and progressive lenses. This varies from frame to frame but not PD or pupillary distance.

This seg height does not normally apply to single vision lenses.
