Salesman is trying to sell a guy a laptop:

How about this one?
So uh, yeah, this one has the, uh, I think it's the nvidia 9... 980 graphics chip in it, which is uh, basically the, basically the best top of the line chip there is right now, so you'll get good graphics.

How much memory does it have?
Well it's got 1 gig of ram, which is good. Most, uh, most systems now are sold with 512 so they're just not as fast.

Processor?
Uh, let me, see, uh, it's, I'll have to find it here, it's the uh, oh yeah, the intel cen-... centrino, which is basically the, uh latest pentium.

How about the network? How fast is it?
Well I think it's a linksys something, so it'll be the same speed as ethernet basically, and ethernet is high speed internet like cable.

I didn't have to stay that long, but listening was just too entertaining.

Nope, it was London Drugs (I think we only have them here). They have decent stuff in their fairly small computer departments, but damn is it ever overpriced. A $100 card at a computer shop will be $120 at future shop/best buy and $160 at London Drugs.

The only reason I ever go in there is cause it's close, and paying $6 for a stack of cds instead of $5 at a place that's a 5 minute drive away is worth it when I'm being lazy.

Nah. Probably Radio Shack. Damn I love messing with those people. Go in there like you really want to buy a system, as a few questions to get them wooded, and then ask to see how many expansion slots it has. They freak out. I've actually had one say he'd open it up for me (Voiding the warranty). That was great.

Ha.

See the thing is you would think this guy would know what he's selling at least. And what's more, if the guy buying is willing to drop $2000+ on something, you'd think he'd do a little research first.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't void the warranty, and on most computers now, that's nearly the easiest and most certain way to find out... most of the time, the stickers on the tower and the box say nothing about the expansion slots. I sell computers, and i'm pretty sure that they wouldn't put thumbscrews on the back to hold the side on, and label the empty 5 1/4" bay as "expansion" if they didn't intend for you to be able to so easily get into them if doing so would void the warranty... i'm sure lawsuits would be coming out of the woodwork as soon as mfr's started denying warranty claims because the owner added RAM or an optical drive.

edit: i thought you were talking about desktops...
