So right now i have an ATI X800 flashed to an X850, but i just got a new acer 22" LCD and the screen seems to flicker in darker areas. Now i tested this monitor with my laptop, and there is absolutly no flickering, so I am guessing it is my video card. Also the DVI-D port is busted on it so thats another reason for an upgrade.

My current specs are:

DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra D
Venice 3000+ @ 2.5
2x512mb ram
ATI X800

Im looking to make this rig last as long as i can because i do not game nearly as much as i used to.

Mainly a little counter strike, and i was happy with COD4's graphics on my rig so I am not looking for a huge overhaul.

Just want something with a good price and comparable/better

I have been out of the computer hardware loop ever since i got to college 3 years ago so consider me a rookie when it comes to all this stuff.

Looking to spend around 150$, so help me out guys

thanks

:edit:

also, does it matter that the 9600gt is PCI-E 2.0 16x?

I don't see anything mentioned about PCI-E 2.0 in my mobo manual or on the DFI website.

get a 9600GT. Fits right into your price range and will run a 22" monitor fantastically in basically any game right now.

Alternately, if you want to stay ATI, you can get the 3870, it trades blows with the 9600GT in most games, and is at a *similar* (but slightly higher) price point.

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply! A
ny brand better than the other? Or any of them capable of being flashed to open up more pipelines or anything like that?

that flashing doesn't work anymore, the companies all laser-cut the disabled pipelines now.

Generally there's no functional difference between the brands. Many people buy EVGA or XFX (I think it's XFX, maybe BFG) for Nvidia cards for the lifetime warranties, which still cover you even if you add aftermarket cooling.

ATI I have no idea, I haven't owned an ATI card since a 9600 that never, ever, with any drivers, worked for me.
