Time for an upgrade! Building new PC

Its been way to long since I built my first computer. Time has been kind to it but I fear my little 400 Mhz PII Is the little train that use-to-could haha. After tedious research about the newer computer components, I have compiled a diagram of the system I plan to build within the next two weeks. Please feel free to make your comments, suggestions, and opinions known. Thanks

Theres no reason to spend this much for a kick ass system, cpu prices is always coming down so just get which ever is best within in the budget. 1.5k is a lot to blow IMHO. Would make more sense to spend about 400-500 bucks for something decent but not too slow.
What can faster do that slower ones can't? brags right? show off to your friend? OK, if so do you as please, later...
🙂

I agree, 1.5k is alot to spend on a computer. Then again someone a few threads away wants a 6k SLI system. I use my computer alot, for work and play. Im trying to shoot for the middle. Good speed, reliability, and decent cost. If you can recommend a $500.00 system that can do that, im all ears.

no point having a dual channel memory kit on the skt754....go 939 instead and get an A64 3200 winchester for not much more than your current setup...

Also no point in single raptor....if you want fast raid sytem then they are good but not much noticable difference in real life compared to a decent sized SATA HD. Aslo if you are on a budget then the raptors will certainly help you blow it....not really a good price/GB ratio!

the rest looks good

hope this helps..

Thanks for the input fuzzy. As far as going 939, i don't see any real issue except choosing a motherboard. I've seen so many raging debates over which is the best. I have not had the chance to work with any 939's myself, so chime in if you love your 939 motherboard. Also I have one Raptor already, I do plan to raid.

If you do plan to raid then raptor may be the way to go especially if you already have one drive. 939 chipset in itself offers only a few percent difference in performance using dual channel but what is interesting is the 939 winchester cores...90nm process not 130nm as normal with newcastle and clawhammer....these chips are proven overclockers (if you get brave) and also perform pretty damn well at stock speeds......

even if you don't want to OC the the 939 chipset will be around for a lot longer than the 754 will be.

that's my line of thought but ultimately it's your money and your decision.

It seems to me 939's still have a bit of maturing to do. Im still leaning towards the 754. The build seems to be pleasing alot of other people. The duel channel memory will still perform fine in the 754?
