watching hog-hunting videos like this, it's frustrating how slow and inaccurate the shots are, especially after the initial shot sends the rest running. This seems like a perfect opportunity for someone to create a real-life aimbot.

designate a 'killbox' on the screen that shots are limited to and then let it go ham

if there are legal implications about autonomous firing, have the computer auto-track and give a green light when a shot is ready and the human can just keep pulling the trigger

that seems limited to one shot as you have to tag each target individually, i was thinking of something more adept at . . . bulk . . . firing

might work if you could tag multiple targets in advance, but taking out 20 pigs before they run out of range is all about speed

also it depends on you aiming the rifle, again i was thinking of a more automated system that could move far more swiftly and accurately than you ever could

Yeah, feral hogs are considered a pest, so that sort of cruelty is legal in some parts.

I hope you're going to be putting that 486DX2 to good use next week, helping the TeAm (once again) defeat Tom's Hardware in a Folding@Home competition? Is your 2x CD drive still connected to the add-in sound card, or do you have one of those fancy motherboards that support CD drives via built-in IDE connectors?

None of that meat is really going to be usable so it looks like they're just killing for sake of it.

they are killing for the sake of their livelihood and their safety

you have no idea how much of a pest feral hogs are, they destroy billions of crops and earthworks threatening flooding.

even with unlimited hunting season and trapping and poisoning and explosions and even helicopter hunting, nothing can stop them. they are basically an unstoppable force marching across the southeast US

So their meat is no good? I have always been of the philosophy that if you kill it you eat it or at least give it to someone that will. That goes for lions.
