I just built one myself:

3000 AM2 semperon
M2NPV-MX
1GB Value RAM
HDs
P150

Take that, price it up and then spend any more money you've got left over on a better CPU. Just don't try to play games on it, ever, or overclock for that matter.

If it's cheaper than an AM2 system yes. I prefered AM2 as at some point i will want more CPU power than my lovely little semperon, 939 goes out of production at the end of the year, this way i've got some upgrade paths open.

By the socket AM2 Sempron system that Bob recommended. Then next spring you can effortlessly upgrade to an X2 A64 dual core if you get into video encoding/editing and decide you want to try dual core. :D
