my enermax 300watt psu is starting to die. the 5volt has dipped to about 4volt and the 12 is down to 11.3. any way im looking for a new one. i want at least 450watt for under $80, and it has to have lights (blue, green, or purple) so fare ive seen Tt butterfly 480watt, and Aspire 520W. is there any thing better/cheaper that looks as good as the thermaltake.

I have an antec true blue 480. Works great and looks great, though it is a little over your $80 limit.

How about TAGAN 480W? It's No.1 selling PSU in Europe, and there are many reviews out there. I have not seen any review against it. (actually some of them say it's even better than Antec)

Would you mind an alternative suggestion? If the rig detailed on your website is up to date, I'd just go with an Antec 350w power supply. I'm running an AMD 64 3200+, an optical drive, floppy, 120 GB WD SE drive, Geforce3 and 2x512MB of RAM all on the Antec. It's just humming along no problem. I have no doubts it will handle my second 120GB drive and another optical device.

Now I'm going to editorialize a bit so I hope I don't offend anyone...

There are valid reasons for getting a super power supply but I think the trend really took off when the AMD Athlons first came out. The stand by amperage on the ATX power supplies wasn't up to snuff on the lower wattage ones (and even some of the higher wattage ones) so a super power supply was basically required. Now the lower end power supplies have plenty of amps on the required rails.

That's my 50 cents ;0.

I'd go with either a 400W, 430W or 480W PSU (Antec of course). If you go with either the 430W or 480W go with the TruePower line. I used one of those in 380W for over two years without any issues at all. I'm running with a 400W SmartPower model at the moment. That's only until I order up either the 430W or 480W TruePower PSU. The ONLY reason I'm getting a new PSU is to reduce the noise coming from the case. Otherwise, I'd leave it all alone.

I've used plenty of PSUs Antec, Enermax included, the Tagan is deffently a step above in build quality and featuers.
