time for a new HSF unit

I'm running an xp 2100+ with a volcano 9 and with the 95 degree weather here in NY I saw my processor hit 58C. Not good 😉

So what's the word on the street about the volcano 11+? good/bad?

Not sure about the vantec, since it's aluminum & copper hybrid. I've heard the solid aluminum ones work better.

Why not go thermalright, like an sk7 or a slk800? And a decent 80mm fan.

If you wish to go the volcano route for the "cool" look then I'd rather have a coolermaster aero 7+. It is better than anything thermaltake makes, including the v11. 😉

nah I don't care about how it looks, the 9 just seemed practical 9 months ago since the 7+ is loud (or so I heard). In fact the adjustment thing for my V9 is broken so I can't even use that, been using the temp sensor inside my heatsink fins which monitors the fan speed pretty well.

Just freaked me out when I looked at hardware doctor after my computer froze for 10 seconds or so.

edit-
I'm using a chieftec case w/ intake fan, exhaust fan, and side fan. It is in a very hot area though, a room with very little venthilation. What I'm looking for is a HSF unit that's relatively quiet (I comfortably run my 80mm V9 fan at about 3k-3200 rpms and it's acceptable) and keeps my CPU load under 50C. Any recommendations?

sk7/slk800, and get a decent 80mm fan. 😉

The fan would depend on if you use a fan controller or not. If not, then something like this one will do you well. It has a fan controller so you can use it faster like when gaming or quieter when surfing.

ax-7/sk-7/slk-800a
All of these are good enough to handle your situation with a decent 80mm fan.
For the best air cooling cut a hole in the side of your case and create a cpu duct.

lol mcdonald, I'm not trying to go hardcore here. I just want to cool my system to a reasonable level, not get it to the point where I can chill a beer on it.
