Time for a HSF upgrade?

I just ordered an Ivy Bridge i5-3750k that I'm going to pick up tomorrow to replace my aging core2 duo rig. My current HSF is a Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu that I've had for quite some time. I will be OC'ing the new CPU. Is the CNPS7000-AlCU up for the task or should I pick up something else while I'm at Micro Center?

I don't see socket 1155 support on zalman's website for that heatsink.
Personally I'd want something larger, thermalright or other tower-type heatsink.
But I suppose it'd work for you for atleast a mild oc if it does fit 1155

No, I would not overclock IVY without H100 or NH-D14

HOWEVER, if you choose to delid your CPU, then that cooler will work just fine.

Depending on your board, it might have 775 mounting holes as well. I think that cooler would be acceptable for a moderate (no overvolt) overclock. It's without a doubt better than the Intel stock cooler.

yes. some boards have 775 socket holes, like ASRock boards

You DO NOT need a H100 or a D14 to do an overclock,.

youll only be LIMITED to a mild oc. like 4.2~4.4

Ended up ordering a Noctua nh-c14. Didn't think to mention that this is going in a 4U chassis so all of the ginormous tower HSFs come no where close to fitting. Looks like this will be a big upgrade, but now I'm going to have to wait till next weeend 🙁

i'd like to know how that C14 handles the 3570k. i have it on my list as well because my case can't do a 160mm+ tall HSF. (the C is well...C shaped 😉 )
