As a father, there comes a time in your life when you get to relax: when the kids are old enough to tackle tough jobs, and before they leave for college. Some pics of my son having fun (and of the large maple tree that we had taken down):
It saved me a few hundred to just have it chopped down (in a few pieces, of course.) I can deal with the clean-up myself (with the kids). I don't have the safety equipment to climb the tree and cut it myself. (well worth the $250 to have dropped in chunks like this.) And, hey! I don't have to dig a hole for the new maple that's going in.

he already cut off all these branches since 3:30
hard to tell how big it is from this picture
grunt work
more grunt work
and more grunt work
cutting away
more cutting
bigass tree (now you can see how big it is)
that made a big hole... think maybe I'll plant the new maple here.

Yeah, I did forget the .jpg. Having a bad day... maybe it's a good thing my son is operating the chain saw and not me. :)

I'm wondering if I can get any money for the main trunk (local sawmill?) I'll have to check...

There's something I didn't know til just now... it's case sensitive? Oh well... they better work now.

Here I am, hurrying to fix the links - if I wasn't hurrying, I'd have clicked preview and made sure they worked (which I should have done in the first place.) Oh well. Live and learn.

edit: Thanks dullard and binister

Probably not worth it. There's definitely several hundred dollars worth of wood in that tree. But labor to transport and mill it would eat most of it.

Still, I'd see if I could end up with some 8/4 lumber out of it. That thing is plenty wide you might get some 12" wide lumber out of it.
