Also, best safe, cheap TIM is arguably Noctua NT-H1. Check idontcare's thread, it's currently on page 1 of CPUs and Overclocking.
 
It's funny, I was researching the exact same thing this evening and settled on NT-H1.

Seems similar to the AS Ceramique I used to use, but better cooling.

Before using any of the metal-based TIMs (like Liquid ultra or indigo xtreme) you need to decide if you are ok with not being able to return the CPU to Intel for any warranty claims (including the performance tuning plan).

The metal TIMs, as well as IC Diamond, mess up the surface of the IHS which has all the Intel markings on it and will invalidate your warranties (including the performance tuning plan).

If that is a concern for you then you'll want to go with the more traditional gel TIMs such as NT-H1, MX-4 or AS Ceramique 2. They clean up easy and don't tarnish/scratch or otherwise physically alter the markings on the IHS.
