Not my choice, but a better choice that Jason Kidd, who everyone thought was going to get it. MUCH better choice than the horrible pick for MVP last season.

He helped turn around New Jersey, but he didn't do it by himself. There were a lot of other factors that contributed to their rapid improvement, including: Keith Van Horn being healthy, Kenyon Martin starting to play up to his potential, Kerry Kittles playing a full season, rookie Richardson Jefferson playing very well, a decent center in the middle in Todd MacCulloch. Kidd is the catalyst that brought that all together, but he isn't the only reason they are much better this season.

Keith Van Horn helped a little...but they definitely couldn't have done it w/o Kidd

He'd have to help the Spurs get past the Lakers first, and they're already in the hole in that one.

Is that your prediction for the series?

I really hope they do win, as I grew up young as a spurs fan in san antonio and always liked them even though I later moved to chicago during the championship years. But d-rob has had some major problems this year and its impressive that duncan was able to step up as much as he could. If D-rob can start the next game and play good ball (not likely) they might have a shot, but...I dont think its gonna happen.

Que? I didn't make a prediction. I think the Lakers will win, but the amount of games is inconsequential to me as long as the result is a Laker win.

Did I just see someone utter the words "A decent center in the middle in Todd MacCulloh"? Decent as in for a high school team decent?

I like both Jason Kidd and Tim Duncan. I would have preffered to see Jason, but Tim Duncan's an awesome player also and he deserves it

Compared to what New Jersey has had at center the past few seasons, he's decent. Plus, the quality of centers in the NBA has gotten so low, that having any big body over 7' in the middle is a plus. There is really only one true center left in the NBA that plays like a center.

I really wanted Kidd to get it this year. The only reason that everyone on the Nets team is playing so much better is because of Kidd. Like Jordan, Kidd makes the people around him better. Look at Phoenix this year, without Kidd they didn't stand a chance.

what was wrong with Allen Iverson being chosen as MVP? he led the league in scoring (or was in the top 3), led the league in steals (or was in the top again), and without him, that 76ers team is the Grizzlies.

Granted, the sixers would really hurt w/o Iverson, he doesn't improve his teammates or provide the same type of leadership role that Kidd provides.

I like Duncan but feel Kidd really deserves it for this season...

What's the most important thing in determining the MVP?

Individual achievement, team's final standing, how important they are to their team, etc.?

iverson may have led the league in scoring, but he also took many shots. his fg %age is in the low 40s.

b0mbrman,

I don't know exactly (and the criteria vary) but in most of the major sports, the success of your team is a very major consideration. In other words, it's not enough to be a young Jordan on a losing team.

I like Tim Duncan a lot, and he's more or less deserving this year, but this just gives Shaq a bit more motivation to dominate the Spurs in the paint. Look for him to be real aggressive in game 3. With Robinson continuing to be a hurt wuss, the Spurs better pray Shaq or Kobe goes down with a major injury.

I honestly thought the Spurs had a small chance this time (since the Lakers aren't dominant like last year) but watching them play yesterday, I realized they simply don't have the talent to stack up. Generally speaking, you need two bona-fide stars (and a team of role players) to win it all. Right now, Duncan is the only clear star on that team.

On another note, since the Mavs don't play defense, I seriously don't see them surviving either Sacramento (or potentially L.A.), even though they seem to be a trendy underdog pick right now.

I was at staples yesterday and those bricks he was shooting didn't make him look like the MVP. Kidd so far is having an awesome post season. Still, Duncan isn't a wife beater so he may be winner by default.
