man, and the guy was so persistent. it was for a long distance service and he kept on going even after i said i am not interested. they had higher rate than what i have now, on top of that. he said i can use it as backup (and no charge if i don't use their service, so i got nothing to lose :-(). finally i said goodbye and disconnected. thats the first time i did that. :-(.

next time they keep talking just say something like 'oh baby im masturbating to the thought of you right now... oooohh yes'

I thought the law was 9pm, but maybe it changed?

In any case, I try to politely decline the offers, but if they person begins to argue, they get the click of me hanging up.

it's not as common here. but when it does i say: i'm not interested, good bye." and disconnect. rude maybe, but only to those annyoing persistant ppl.

Oh, my calls always go something like this:
"Good day, sir, is this My Name?"
"Why, yes, it is."
"Can I offer you.."
"EAT SH[/i]IT AND DIE!"
*click*

What would be fun, too is:

"Good day, sir, is this My Name?"
"He.. I'm.. He's.. I'm sorry.. He passed away last Friday."
"Oh, I'm so.. So sorry..."
"No, it's okay.. *go on telling how great of a guy he was, get a little teary, oh, he'll be missed*"

And they'll hang (up on) themselves. 😀

Ditto. We get 2 or 3 calls a day even after putting ourselves on the Do Not Call list. We actually got a late one like the OP yesterday 😛 What I do now is just pick up the phone and listen to them go "hello? hello? hellllllooo?" a few times and then hang up. Mean, I know, but it annoys me.

I picked up the phone yesterday and there was a call for my dad. He wasn't in so I asked who was calling. The person on the other end completely ignored my question and the following conversation ensued.

"When is a good time to call sir?"
"What is this regarding?"
"Your phone service"
"You need not call back."
"Uhhhhhh, ok"

Click

"Does your company charge for long distance?"
"Why would I want to pay for long-distance? I hacked into the telephone system and all my outgoing calls are free. I've been doing it for 15 years and no one has ever caught me."

Leave them perplexed on the other end 😛

Yes, you should have taken their information and filed a complaint.

33. Are telemarketing calls from overseas covered?

Yes. Any telemarketers calling U.S. consumers are covered, regardless of where they are calling from. If a company within the U.S. solicits sales through an overseas professional telemarketer, that U.S. company may be liable for any violations by the telemarketer. The FTC can initiate enforcement actions against such companies.

from here
