Hi people,I'm new here.
I on a rather tight budget but I want to use AMD 64's. My budget is around RM 3500...which is about 921 US$
Can you recommend me the hardware and all?

I currently looking at(i get all the names horribly wrong, but you understand, don't you?)

-AMD 64 2800+
-Kingston 1GB ValueRAM 400(512*2)
-DFI LANparty UT NF3 250 GB
-Seagate 160GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer SATA hard disk
-ATI 9800 Pro 256 MB (anybody shiping 2nd hand to Malaysia?)
-17" Philips Flatscreen CRT monitor
-Any cheap soundcard for the time being
-16*8*16 Ben-Q DvD-RW
-any cheap ATX casing
-400 Watts Antec PSU

that's about it...a simple system that can overclock quite nicely and run stable.
I'm not an extreme overclocker guy or a hardcore gamer. I just like to play certain games espcially racing
and i do a heck load of multimedia crap and ripping videos.I also do programming but not one of my programs ever come out right. No wait..they never come out. Heck i can't even make a simple clock.

I will look to upgrade some parts later when i have more money,so perhaps you can recommend me what to upgrade in advance.

Looks like a good parts list, especially since it will be going to Malaysia. If you can afford a new generation graphics card like a Geforce 6600/6800 or better, get one.

That's looks pretty good. Maybe drop the DVD burner and pick up a 6800NU if you feel like it.

BTW, save some money and just go with the 9800 PRO 128MB version. 256MB is only worth it on x800/6800 cards.

oh?
i see, i see...so 128MB i guess

I cannot afford a 6600 or 6800 yet. I'm still studying and haven't worked before so I have not that much savings.
But i will definitely get a 6800 soon after I work. This is setup is coming out of my father's wallet.

Yeah,sonic. I did list a dvd-burner...
3rd last.

It looks pretty good.

IMHO, However, i would suggest that you get a socket 939 mobo and CPU as they would be more supported down the line. I believe that the socket 754 mobos (like DFI LANparty UT NF3 250 GB) and the AMD 754 CPUs will be slowly phased out in favor of the 939 socket.

If you can wait a little bit longer, the NFORCE4 (socket 939 with PCI-e interface) mobos will be coming out soon and get the 6600GT PCI-e graphics card.

edit: BTW, welcome aboard!

if your on a budget, go ahead and get the 2800, that looks like a great all around setup, and honestly by the time its worth goin to s939 you will want the latest generation mobo. i would also suggest getting the 128meg 9800pro, maybe a pioneer 108, use onboard sound, and an antec case and psu combo to save a couple while getting a decent case.

Lol, just to make your decision harder, the s939 mobo + AMD64 3000+cpu is only $33 more than
the 754 2800+ and DFI mobo.

$33 bucks more for a faster cpu and newer technology...

754 2800+ = 127
DFI mobo = 100

939 3000+ = 149
Abit AV8 939 mobo = 111

(priced from newegg)
