Tight budget for upgrade

Hi guys,

I am now running a very old desktop (Dell E520) and considering to upgrade the CPU and Motherboard. Since I made some upgrade before for the PSU (500W CoolMaster), GPU(BFG 7900GS), Memory (4GB DDR2 800) and HDD (1 X $320GB + 1 X 500GB WD SATA), I would rather leave them unchanged.

The desktop is usually utlized for internet browsing and video streaming. Gaming is very limited.

It appears that many people are talking about AMD X2 OC potential and Intel E series good L2 cache. I do not know which one apply to my case.

I am living in Los Angeles and Frys is nearbuy. Newegg is also my favorite web for hunting the components.

I want to control my budget as lower as possible. Maybe around $100. Thanks a lot!

Welcome to AT !

Check E5300 combo deals at Frys and Newegg. I'm not too updated on older AMD chips, but AFAIK, the E5300 is a snag @ $50.

EDIT: Just checked the price on the E5300. Apparently it's gone up to $63 now.

IF you're running a Dell copy of XP, it's not going to like the non Dell motherboard. Just something to consider.
