the commentators said it best...a team that spends $70million more (or w/e the figure is) than their nearest competitor at the VERY LEAST should win the WS.

Or how about the fact that the Yankee payroll during their current 6 year no-WS winning drought (from 2000-2006) has been in the neighborhood of $975M? With almost a billion dollars spent on payroll over the last six years, they should have won all the last 6 WS.

this quotation had me laughing:

"Maybe in some ways the good Lord was looking after us. It was probably a little bit of a bonus for us to only have to beat the Yankees three times instead of four."
-- Tigers manager Jim Leyland

so is he trying to say that God hates the yankees? i always laugh when athletes or coachers say something like that... "God helped us"... why would god care about u guys winning a measely baseball game...

I think those are just generic responses to give idiot reporters who ask the same annoying questions over and over again.

Is there a limit as to how many teams one person can own in MLB? Couldn't Steinbrenner sell the yankees and buy up like 5-10 teams - I mean one of thems gotta win the WS?

Good thing, I don't think I could stand the new yorkers ranting about another subway series if the mets and the yankees won...

As a lifelong Tigers fan, it was so great to see the players come out of the clubhouse and celebrate with the fans.

 Tigers.. Beat Oakland.

Post-season success begins & ends with pitching which the Yankees' simply didn't have this year. I can think of quite a few teams that have won it all with weak batting lineups but a strong pitching staff & pretty much none that the reverse is true of ... for some reason every few years folks need a reminder of this & the Tigers with the best ERA in MLB this season provided it.

Further, all the Yankee fans need look no further then Boss George to find the real problem.. the great Yankee team of the late 90's was able to be built directly because he took a "hands-off" approach to running the team & his steadily increasing involvment in baseball decisions has been their downfall.

Of course being a Mets fan I'm thrilled to see them gone from the playoffs ... Mets vs Tigers in the seris would be great!

While my pick is the A's in 6 games, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Tigers pull it out. One major difference between the A's & the Yankee's though, is the A's have a very strong starting rotation themselves... maybe the strongest in baseball, despite the Tigers having a better regular season ERA.

they are supposed to win the World Series,

Why, because they have the highest bankroll?

Maybe George and the rest of the delusional Yankee fans should get a clue, stop trying to buy the Penant, and play some damn baseball.

The salary cap differential between the Yankees and the rest of MLB teams who've kicked their #SS the past several years in the post season is disgusting and accomplishes nothing but generate displike for MLB in general. Doesn't matter who plays the Yankees because everybody else will be cheering for the other team. The more the Yankees lose, the more it proves the sport can't be (entirely) bought - get it?

I distinctly heard several thousand Detroit fans screaming "A-Rod sucks, A-Rod sucks!" during the final game, and it was great.

Jeeter is the only one on that team with a clue anyways.

Looking back, it is easy to see that the key to the Yankees failure is that they didn't spend enough money for their roster.
