GeneValgene: I read them. Yes, there's always the possibility that they might do something fraudulent. I am only making one purchase for a relatively inexpensive item, and will monitor the status of the credit card. But that's really beside the point....if you look at my original post, what I am really asking about is how TD handles rebates. It's good to know that they have a bad rep and a bad hsitory with the BBB, and I appreciate the comments. But i'de like to know where TD stands today and how they handle rebates.

they have worked hard to clean up their act. most likely you will get the rebate, but it will be slow

I didn't think Tiger had been doing their own rebates (OnRebate) for that long. Year maybe?

Anyhoo... The key is this: READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY!!!

There's always a rub, and they're counting on that rub to be rubbed to not fulfill the rebate.

Example: Two rebates, one item. Include copy of invoice for each item. That's a copy of an INVOICE people... NOT a rebate receipt with no purchase prices on it. This apparently happens with Fry's rebates ALL of the time. They give you a rebate receipt.. not really sure what it's supposed to be good for other than a "gift receipt."

Example: Send in both UPC codes from box if there are two UPC codes. I saw this on a monitor once. The box had a bar code on each side. They wanted both bar codes so people wouldn't send the rebate in twice. Once with each barcode.

Make sure that YOUR correct information is on the invoice and that it matches the receipt. I had this problem with Circuit City. The clerk put my address in wrong and the wrong address printed on the receipt. They wouldn't fulfill the rebate unless it shipped to that address. Lucky me, the address was the office for an apt. complex I was staying at, so I just told the office I'd get some mail there and I'd check in to pick it up. 😉

Bottom line: Never rush a rebate. If everyone mailed in their rebates and mailed them in correct to the tee, the companies that offer these rebates would go BROKE! When I do rebates I do them one at a time and only fill them in and seal up the envelopes when I have quiet time at my desk to focus on what I'm doing. Christmas is the WORST time to do rebates because you're so busy with everything else, you're going to screw up what you send in or forget to send anything in at all. That's why there's more rebates in December than any other month of the year. 😉

And if it's a BIG rebate... GET TRACKING. Not delivery confirmation either. Send it FedEx or signature confirmation. A $100 rebate is WORTH an extra $5 or $10 bucks to make sure it gets to the destination!!!

some good tips

I thought I should report back about the rebate process. So far so good. I like the onrebate.com setup. What I found most interesting is that they offer to expedite your rebate in 3-5 business days from the date of approval for a fee of 4.50. They probably should expedite your rebate for free. But anyway, I had sent my rebate right before christmas eve via certified mail. This morning, I got an e-mail that the status was updated and that my paperwork was received. Since I paid them a bribe of 4.50, I got another e-mail this afternoon that my rebate has been issued. Not bad. It's ashame that I had to pay ~$3 for certified mail and a $4.50 fee for expediting my rebate. In the future, I will do tigerdirect rebates. But only for large rebates. I would never do this whole process for a $10 or $20. Some rebates are not worth the hassle of the precautions that have to be taken.
