rebates are an unnecessary scam. WTH don't they just give me the money now if they want to offer a discount? The rebate system inherently relies on dishonesty on the part of the retailer, and I hope they are deemed illegal soon. Until then I refuse to buy any rebate laden "deal" unless it applies the discount instantly at checkout.

They are banking on many people not sending in the rebate.

tigerdirect used the "OnRebate" system when I dealt with them. the refunds were slow to arrive, but other than that, no complaints. ppl will tell you not to deal with tigerdirect however, for various reasons.
It's called a rhetorical question. One of the best ways to start a rant 😉
And the only reason it's not considered false advertising is because in smaller print they'll add -$100 in rebates.
You wanna be cheaper than the other guy? Then give me the discount now! Or I'll pay the $10 more and buy it from your competitors :|

Hmmm...I don't think we'd get the full discount if it were instant because the businesses factor in people who don't send them in...
So that raises an interesting question: Would you rather that we all get $20 off immediately, or that you and I get $40 in 6 weeks while Joe Sixpack gets distracted by the monster truck rally, forgets, and gets $0?

I still want to know how they get away with advertising "$100 after $50 rebate" when you pay tax on the entire $150, effectively resulting in paying more than the $100 plus tax price.
Shouldn't it be "$100 after rebate, PLUS the tax on the other $50"??
Then again, the government would be thrilled if someone sold candybars for "free after $1000 rebate" Of course, the person pays tax on $1000, which amounts to MORE than the retail value of a candybar, effectively making the purchase far from free.
