I got a call from my rep. at tigerdirect last Friday. He told me that I had about $1200 worth of credit that tigerdirect was "giving" me. He told me there was no other obligation to buy. He just wanted to thank us for our business and hope we continue to shop there.

Since I took my current position here at this company in 2005 we have bought $0 from Tiger. The guy before me did spend some money there, but I have on idea how much, but I'm willing to believe it was a hefty sum.

The rep. told me that I can just email him at his tigerdirect email and he would get the stuff out to me. I believe he said he would invoice me and that the credit would be applied within 24 hours so I wouldn't even be charged.

This just sounds weird to me. I like the idea of $1200 worth of gear, but how did they come up w/ that number and why now?

Could just be an enticement to start shopping with them again. $1200 in free gear to earn your business for years to come is looked as an investment for them. Its definitely not unheard of, though I didn't know Tigerdirect did it.

I'd assume your predecesor did a lot of business with them if they're willing to front you $1200.

Credit as in "credit line" or credit as in "Buy yourself some free shizzle."

I think you know, based on that, what must be done.

We already have the credit line, this is the free shizzle line that I speak of.

Then you must act.

Might want to check with your company to make sure you don't have to declare the gifts.
At my company it states in our handbook we can not accept gifts unless under very specific circumstances.

Would suck to get $1,200 worth of stuff and lose your job.

TigerDirect.com is a pretty good site, though I'd look into this 'free credit' stuff

I can see the stuff arriving and then the credit does not get applied to the account.

Get the "statement" from them on applying the credit in writing before you commit to a purchase utilizing the credit.

Was this rep from Nigeria? Is he sending you a check for the sum of $5000 and you send him the remainder back?

I like TigerDirect. A lot of people complain about them and their rebates, I've never had an issue when ordering from them... but I never tried their rebates either.
