Niko? any user reviews of this? This is a great price for its size, but if the picture sucks then it ain't worth a dime.

This same TV was $399 from TD a few weeks ago and no one wanted it then either. There are reviews of it at NewEgg or Amazon I think. Some good, some bad.

Forgive any mess-ups, this is my first post even though I've read for a LONG time. I'm just finally getting with the times and looking to pick up an LCD monitor, and this deal looks pritty good - for my limited knowledge.

I couldn't find this at NewEgg like aggs mentioned, and the only listing I could find for it at Amazon is them selling it for TigerDirect. Neither had any user reviews. I did a search on the forums for it and only found a reference from back in 2005 to Newegg having it, and it's not there anymore...it shows up as a 20" if you click on the link provided. The thread is here: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...&STARTPAGE=1&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

$399 from TD seems like it would have been a smokin deal. There are a couple E-Bay auctions up at just under the price without rebate, but you'd think there would be more if it was $399 a couple weeks ago. Are you sure it was the same TV?

As for the resolution, Is it really noticeable for the 86 pixels in width? The reason I wonder this is that this monitor is actually 15:9 instead of 16:9. Perhaps the missing pixels make up that extra part of the aspect ratio so the resolution is still the same.

I did call the company and they explained how the 15:9 works, which was odd....black bars cover the bottom and top like on a widescreen DVD and that makes it 16:9. So the bars are short, but it's still a bit strange to do it that way. I'm gonna sleep on this, mainly because there's a wall mount bracket for $90 with a $90 rebate as well, so I could get the whole setup delivered for under $500.....

This may be a dumb question but I haven't found an answer to it yet. My understanding is that these lcd hdtv's have no tuners in them? Wtf are they calling them tv's? With no tuner, it's just an lcd monitor. Is there anything to distinguish a 24in lcd hdtv from say a 2405FPW that Dell sells? Or is it the same thing? It seems to me I'm seeing a lot better deals for the size of the monitor that you're getting if you go for an lcd dtv tan if you bought a monitor. Makes me think the lcd hdtv's would be missing something the monitors have?

the way I see it is that these flat panel tv's or any tv for the matter that don't have tuners doesnt matter. Who doesn't use cable/satellite as a tuner? I could understand some people that still only view local channels and use rabbit ears but truly how many people only do this?

As long as the lcd panel has some tv inputs its a tv to me. Like my 2005fpw...it's a tv to me because I have a satellite box connected to it via svideo so it's a tv.

Well for one, me! We've got cable at my house, but no cable box is required for it(We have basic service, no digital, no hbo or pay per view). So the coax plugs directly into our tv. I would have to go out and buy a separate box to use one of these for watching television, or hook it up as my monitor and get a tv tuner card.
So now you ask, wtf would I need an hdtv for if I don't have digital or anyu of that jazz? Still living at home, so when I get my own place and get the cable package I choose I want my tv to be hdready so I don't have to go out and buy a new tv.
So that brings me back to the final question. Why is a comparable size lcd hdtv cheaper than a widescreen monitor of the same size? Very rarely do you see deals for the 2405fpw below $500 and this is a 26in not a 24in.

actually it does have a builtin tuner, just not an hd tuner, you could watch your basic cable just fine, and in reference to the other part of your post AMCrambler, all companies who provide HD service also provide you with a tuner as part of the deal, unless they decide to change things in the future

Even if it doesn't have a tuner ( I don't need one so I didn't research it) if it has RCA/HDTV composite/S-video etc. inputs, then I'd consider it a TV. You can still play your Xbox and GC and PS2 on it.

with the 15:9 thing, I don't know. I have a 23" 16:9 LCD HDTV that is 1280 X 768 and I don't get black bars. I'd imagine even if you did get them they would be fairly small.

If you watch OTA HD content or basic cable like someone said they have, you'll want to go with a different model with a built-in HD tuner. In any other case, you just don't need it.

Another alternative, if you're going to be using this as a PC monitor too, is to get an ATI HDTV Wonder PCI card and use that as your HDTV tuner. That would save you a chunk of cash over finding another model with built-in HD tuning.
