That wouldn't have happened if he were in good enough shape to play a real sport.....like Hockey.

How anyone could hurt their knee walking around all day I have no idea, golf, what a bitch past time (I refuse to call golf a sport).

Atleast Sidney Crosby carries his own stick!

Walking around? Do you have any idea how much torque your body (and knees) endure when driving a ball 300 yards?

Uh no.

Knee injuries are common.

The force and tourqe put on your one knee in golf over and over again eventually causes problems.

Same way with your elbows in tennis and baseball(pitchers).

Have you ever played golf? I can definitely see hurting my knee after swinging a club for thousands of rounds of golf.

Woods was last seen in public late Monday afternoon walking with a pronounced limp across Torrey Pines toward the parking lot, the U.S. Open trophy in his arms.
for some reason that image is just funny to me. tiger walking to his buick, a little bit gimpy, carrying the trophy.

Yes I have, and I'm even a member of the golf club that hosten the Canadian Open a few years back.

While I have no doubt that injuries occur, I find it incredibly pathetic that a sport that is so physically unintensive (relative to 99% of the other sports in the world) can keep someone out for an entire season.

I agree, and it was painful as hell returning back to playing golf. However, golf did not cause my injury, soccer did.

I'm not surprised. I was surprised he made it through the US Open even though he didn't perform up to normal Tiger standards. He looked like he was in real pain after almost every drive.

I would love to see the prognosis and timeline to return if the athlete played Hockey, Basketball, Football, Rugby, or even the other pansy sport known as soccer.

I really don't know what to say here, I mean this is just ridiculous. If you blow out your knee, which I imagine is quite easy to do playing golf, considering the constant pressure you put on it, then how is it any different than blowing out your knee in any other sport? If it's toast, it's toast and you can't wing the club, end of story.

Wow. So I guess he is faking the surgery too right?

Sarcasm aside, hopefully Tiger can come back to full form in 2009.

have you ever had your ACL operated on, its no joke, the recovery time is pretty long, hell even getting to the point where you can simply jog around can take months

Right, like soccer players are not some of the best athletes in the world.

Did you read the article? He's having ACL surgery. For anyone that has ACL surgery you are out at minimum 6-9 months, with some rehab going into a 1year. So I wouldn't find that kind of injury pathetic in the least, no matter what game you are playing. That is a devastating knee injury no mater how you try to spin it.

Tiger puts so much stress on that knee with the incredible torque that he generates that it eventually had to give. May be time for another swing change.
