Tiger Woods underwent back surgery for a pinched nerve and will miss his first Masters since playing his first in 1995, he announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

there is a very real possibility that we could never see Woods ever raise another major trophy.

uh oh.. looks like he's not going to beat the record for winning most # of majors.

and uh oh for golf in general

Well Jack won his majors in a span of 25 years. If you don't count the last one (age 46) it would have been 19 years.

Tiger and Jack won their first major at 21 and 22 respectively. Tiger will reach a 19 year span in 2016. So time is running out unless there is a fluke like Jack in 1986.

Golf is very hard on people's bodies, so even with today's advanced training and recovery techniques, there is still no accounting for an individual's resistance to that wear and tear, it's something they are born with. I don't think Tiger is going to have the resistance to wear and tear that guys like Vijay and Angel Cabrera have had, and even Jack to a certain extent.

I don't either.

My father was a scratch golfer and an instructor. I remember the first time we saw Tiger Woods on TV in a match. My father turned to me and said Tiger swings too hard and that his body will eventually give out.

I don't know that Tiger's only difficulty in reaching Jack's record is his age/health. I think a big part of what will make it difficult is all the good young golfers.

I think Tiger will won some more, but I no longer think he'll catch Jack.

PEDs aren't worth it.

He hasn't won a major since he started using them (allegedly).
