Tiger Woods, a retrospective

can anyone think of an achievement in sports history that compares to Tigers 4 Major tournament wins in a 12 month period, in which he SET the course record at each tournament?

in my opinion, that one year alone (which is greater than the rest of his career) makes him an immortal. i don't know why anyone even mentions the fact that it wasn't a "TRUE" grand slam because one of those wins was in a different calender year.

amazing.

Did he set the course record at the Masters? I thought his first Masters win set the course record. Still, it was a feat that will be very hard to complete again.

what about the 8 straight NBA championships by the Celtics? 88 straight games won by UCLA basketball? 7 straight by UCLA basketball?

people goof on biking but lance armstrong winning the tour de france 5 years in a row is pretty damn impressive....

Serena Williams won 4 titles in a row as welll....she lost what would have been her 5th in a row at the French Open in the semi's, but retained her Wimbledon title (5 out of 6)....

Steve Redgrave winnign 5 olymipic golds in rowing. ( did his last two with crones disease and his last with diabetes) and anyone who has rowed 2k wil tell you how hard it is and to be the best for 20 years in an endurance sport is unheard of.

ok, so tiger didn't set the course record for that masters that year. he only hit 14 under and the record he set for that course is 18 under.

but still one of the most impressive 12 month period in the history of any athlete.

Cael Sanderson's college wrestling career - undefeated (159-0) , four-time national champion, 4-time NCAA Outstanding wrestler, 3-time Hodge award winner.

i don't think individual achievement can be compared to team. that leaves Lance Armstrong, *if* he wins this year (cause five times in a row is already done before. a couple times, i believe)

How about when Bobby Jones completed the Grand Slam in 1930?

that's a good question. i've wondered which is the greater achievement, winning a "REAL" grand slam or winning the "Tiger" slam and setting course records on at 3 of the tournaments?

I don't know about course records, but most people would say that Tiger's Slam is more impressive because of the heightened level of competition that exists today. Whether or not that's true, I don't know.

Tiger's slam was better because Bobby Jones' includes two amateur events?
