Tiger Direct or New Egg?

I'm buying a high end system in components at the moment and I'm trying to decide which will be more reliable, money efficient, etc. I'm from Sweden so I don't know much about these companies, but they seem to be the most popular internet component dealers around here.

Also if you have any other suggestions that are better I'd love to hear about it.

I don't think either of them ships internationally, but Newegg has a FAR better reputation than TigerDirect. Check out resellerratings.

Sorry I should have specificed myself more clearly, I'm from Sweden but I've moved to California and I'm living here now.

So New Egg seems to be better? That's ashame, I don't like their website as much, its' kind of slow and the filtering system is awkward... But I'm most interested in price and reliability so I will try to make a quote there and see what price it rounds up to.

Newegg does have a better reputation.
Newegg will have to charge you tax, and Tiger Direct will not.

If I had to choose between those two, even with the tax from Newegg, I would choose Newegg.

It's funny how you've pitted one of the most respected vendors on this forum against the most notorious one :)

Haha, yeah well they kept on coming up when I was looking for different components so I was assuming they both have the most traffic.

Wow so TD is that bad? Can someone tell me what's so bad about them?

And are there any other good ones you'd reccommend?

Post your budget and what your looking for in a computer, and I'm sure you can get a consenus on where to buy what. A lot of the good places have offices in california, so you have taxes to consider.

Monarchcomputer.com is a good place to order from if you want to avoid cali taxes.

People have had issues in the past with TigerDirect, mostly around mail-in rebates or discounts that never got honored, and on and off with items that were listed "in stock" but then turned out to be backordered (once they had been paid for, of course). Returns have also not always gone smoothly with them, IIRC.

lots more info on TD

for comparison...

I've bought a couple things from TD and never got burned -- but I also wasn't counting on a MIR, and I didn't have to return any of the items.

Actually you post your budget and you`ll get zillions of people telling you what to buy......trust me.....then it will get into brand loyalty then...well you know the rest of the story....

Go with NewEgg you can`t go wrong!!

Newegg is a good place regardless if there are taxes or not. I'm not sure what sales tax is in Cali, but I am sure it is worth Newegg's awesome service.

I also suggest zipzoomfly. They are also cali based if I'm not mistaken. I perfer them, just because they have better free shipping. If your in Cali I don't think it would really matter anyway. It just depends on what site is cheaper I guess.

i don't get why people say they charge tax. i just ordered from them the other, a huge order i might add, and there was no tax.

from my last invoice:
Subtotal: $633.00
Tax: $0.00
Shipping: $25.53
Rush Order Fee: $2.99
Amount Paid: $661.52

edit: unless they charge tax in the state that their actual HQ is in. I'm from PA.

Every online store charges tax in states they have a physical presence in.

they're both good, it's not like TD is horrible. if it's more than 10% cheaper, go with TD

Monarch has a good deal that if you buy a mobo cpu combo you get a free copy of hl2, also no tax is a definite plus. But if you want your gear within a week, go Newegg.

Check on tiger or any vendor at reseller ratings before you buy from anyone. Reseller Ratings has customer comments of many vendors and there are many horror stories. Here is a link to tigers' comments. http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1983.html

Here at AT some acceptable vendors commonly mentioned are: Newegg, Zipzoomfly, and Monarch. Check them too! Even the best dealers can start to count on thier good reputation as they disintigrate.

As you use the internet to check for lowest prices you will often find the most disreputable dealers with the lowest prices because it is a lie. Reseller Ratings can serve as a safety net against those people.

Thanks for all of the feedback this has been very informative...

I'm getting the concensus is that TD is kind of shady, stay away from the products that depend on MIR there and if avoid ordering all together unless the price is great, in which case pray to god that there's nothing wrong with the product because returning is difficult.

New Egg everyone seems to llike, and seems to be reliable.

So far I've heard two new names, Zip Zoom Fly and Monarch. I'm checking out the websites now and they look interesting.

Do you guys have any further opinions on these? Especially in comparison to New Egg?

TD's headquarters is in Califonia, so is Newegg's. I even believe TD has actuall stores in that area, research and see if you can find it.

Newegg is the real deal. Been doing business with them for about 4 years now. I have bought from a lot of different online sources, but newegg is the one I use and trust the most.
