Remember in the Radio Shack thread where I said Tiger Direct was next up on my electronics store death watch? Nailed it.

The company is closing almost all of their physical retail locations and focusing on B2B operations. Kevin O’Leary (Dragon's Den/Shark Tank) has signed on to assist with the transition.

“After an extensive review and planning process, we are taking actions immediately to accelerate our B2B and public sector customer focus in our North American Technology Products business. These actions will include the exit of substantially all retail store operations; closing a distribution center; and implementing a general workforce reduction to realign our resources solely with our B2B focus. We have engaged Gordon Brothers to assist with the retail store process and anticipate that all of these actions will be completed by the end of the second quarter.”

Liquidation sales are already starting.

They've been busy boys lately. Two execs at the company were just sent to jail for accepting bribes and kickbacks.

Hopefully Microsoft is next.

There's a few here in Toronto. I've bought a few things there over the years. Just cables, fans, cases. For electronics though, I always found them expensive. They also refused to honour online prices at the retail locations. Canada Computers is better.

Canada Computers is definitely better.

That's awesome. Tiger Direct has crazy pricing, so reducing the overhead will actually make me shop there more most likely.

There was a time when they sucked donkey balls. I had a big fight with them years ago over their dead pixel policy. Was told one thing when I bought the monitor, another when I tried to return it. When I called LG, they said Canada Computers was full of shit. Didn't shop there for years after that. They've come under new management since then, and are a lot better.

There's one opening up near by "soon". That's going to be bad news for my wallet.

There's a CC around the corner from my office. Their staff are jerks, and intentionally ignore you. But they have gotten much better otherwise. Their pricing is quite competitive on most things now, especially sale prices, and they usually have in-store-inventory on the stuff I actually want.

Hmm, there is a TD near my house. Have only been there once. May have to stick my nose in this weekend to see if there are any good deals on tv's.

The one in Mississauga, the staff there were racist. They'd ignore you if you weren't Asian. Used to go in there and nobody would be serving the white and black customers. That's the one that came under new management. Got rid of all those dick holes.

:( I just discovered that we had one near our mall. It's kind of a drive so I only went a couple times. It was refreshing to have a b&m store with components. I never dealt with them online because of their bad reputation, so I never had abhad experience with them

I haven't purchased anything from TigerDirect since probably the last time I made a purchase from GoogleGear (zipzoomfly). I didn't realize they were even still around, nevertheless had a B&M presence.

Yeah, I didn't know that either. Looks like the store to closest to us is Newark, though. (NewARK, DE, that is, not NEWark, NJ.) Though if their liquidation sale is anything like Radio Shack's, it won't be much to write home about anyway - the good stuff was so overpriced that even a 50% discount only brought it down to normal pricing, with no returns even for DOAs, and questionable warranty availability. And the non-RS brand-name stuff wasn't even discounted that much. I picked up a few components for old times' sake, but that was about it...

they had one here under the compusa brand (in the same location as a brand spanking new circuit city that never opened), never anyone in it, prices weren't competitive with fry's or microcenter, and lacked some of the more oddball parts/adapters/whatnot that both those other stores have. it'd basically have been as if bestbuy got rid of appliances and music/movies, then added a larger (but still not complete) computer parts section.

Never knew they had a B & M. They always sucked IMO, especially in their beginning.

Ya, not the best service, but I research the hell out of the stuff I want to buy beforehand so don't need help -- not your typical customer. The only interaction I have with staff is to get my shit from behind the counter and to take it to the cashier. Speaking of, I have waited for very long periods of time for staff to be available or to get my shit.

It has definitely gotten better. And how shall I say, the staff has gotten more diverse at the store I go to.

Oh ya, never bought anything from Tiger Direct before. Almost did a few times, but there aren't any stores nearby and I didn't want to ship anything for some reason.

They're "liquidation sale" is only 10-20% off. Only 5% on PC's and tablets. Most of their stuff is still overpriced. Supposedly every Thursday they are going to be increasing their markup until they get to 90%. I'd wait.

I had to double check the date on the OP, it's a complete surprise to me that:

a) TD has B&M locations
b) TD is still in business

I bought something from them many years ago, got shafted on the rebate, and never touched them again.

Overall this couldn't have happened to a more deserving company.
