ok i am so sick up people on the radio saying that it was the tigers fault for attacking roy. I am from las vegas and a bio/psych major. I can tell you that it doesnt matter if the white tiger was born in captive. It is still a WILD animal. It has basic animal instincts. It would take 100s to 1000s generations using artificial selection to get a semi tame tiger. I mean seriously what do u expect to happen when you play with fire. No doubt that this was a tradegy but still come on...what do u expect when u put ur face inches away from a tiger's mouth.

Who's been saying that on the radio? If they've been saying that they are idiots. You can never tame a goddamn tiger, no matter how nice you are to it. I mean, sometimes it's even impossible to tame regular house cats!

I am just surprised those guys haven't been chewed up before this...

Actually, on some news program they had an animal expert who said that it was possible that the tiger was *DEFENDING* Roy by dragging him away from all the "threats" it saw on stage. That would explain its actions a lot more; if an animal is bred in captivity away from other members of its species, it may consider the option of a surrogate family member -- for example, see the terry cloth surrogate monkey study.

If it was actually attacking Roy, it wouldn't have just run off with Roy's head in its mouth, I don't think.

After reading a book about a zoologist who spent hundreds of days trapped in a small enclosure with a tiger I can tell you a few things:

- The Tiger will not attack you if it thinks you are the dominant Alpha Male.
- Even if you are the dominant alpha male, if you invade its territory and it thinks you are a threat it WILL attack.
- If the tiger thinks you are the Alpha male, but it gets fed up with you and your alpha dominancy is not firmly established it will likely attack you.
- Yes, tiger's are animals. They follow instinct. They don't have a sense of loyalty. They don't attack, or they do, mostly based on what they believe there social status is in relation to other tigers - or in this case a human.

Did you read "The Life of Pi"? I somehow don't think that Roy would folllow the same regime that Pi did.

They found out the tiger didn't do it after all.

Tigers, as it turns out, are carnivores. Why would it eat a fruit?

Ummm how do you get trapped for hundreds of days with a tiger, all the while deciphering the social system of panthera tigris, yet can't seem to find your way out of a cage?

that one statement invalidates the next one - Even if you are the dominant alpha male, if you invade its territory and it thinks you are a threat it WILL attack.
