Ticket question

Mookow

Lifer
I got a ticket for running a red light. I dont want to contest it (I didnt get out of the intersection before it turned red, so I am guilty), but I would prefer to take traffic school rather than have this ticket go on my previously perfect record and thus result in higher insurance rates.

So, I'm assuming I show up in court and ask the judge if I can go to traffic school rather than take the ticket, right? This was the first time I've been pulled over in the 6 years that I have been driving. Also, if anyone from the area (Cuyahoga county, OH) knows, how much are court fees usually? And how much does traffic school usually cost?

Finally, how should I dress for traffic court? Khakis and a button down shirt?

You don't ask, you demand from the judge. Don't let the judge push you around. Demand what you want.

If you haven't had a ticket in six years, you shouldn't even have to go to court to take traffic school. My first ticket the officer handed me a sheet explaining exactly how I went about signing up for traffic school. My second ticket I went to court to request traffic school, but that was because it was only a year later and in Nebraska you can only take traffic school every three years.

Edit: If you go to court, wear a white shirt, black pants, and a tie, or a suit if you feel like it. Everyone else with any bearing on your fate will be wearing a suit.

Different state, so different rules, I guess. The officer didnt say anything about traffic school, and the ticket doesnt say anything about it, either. Off to court I go.
