Ti4600 ------> 5600 (non ultra)

shenaniganz

Just wanted to say, this is my first post. I read a lot of stuff on the forums here but have never posted before. Anyway, here's my question.

Awhile ago my PNY Geforce Ti4600 card on my CAD computer took a dump. We RMA'd it (still under waranty) and the new card we received from PNY was a 5600fx (non ultra). From everything I've seen this is a downgrade. Am I way off on this? Haven't run any benchmarks on the new card but hope to compare to old benchies. So I can see just how bad I got shafted.

What does everyone think?

COMPLETE downgrade. fx5600non ultra is slower than a ti4200 in all situations with AA/AF off. Even with AA/AF on it barely gets ahead. That is ridiculous that they sent you a fx5600 back.

They should've sent you a 5600 Ultra (assuming you wanted DX9 support) or a Ti4800 which is (from my understanding) a Ti4600 with 8X AGP. Also, the Ti4800SE is a Ti4400 with 8X AGP for reference.

Big downgrade. A 5600U is equivalent to a 4600 in terms of performance, but it depends on when you bought your 4600 as to whether it'll deserve a 5600U as a replacement. Remember, 5600's retail at about $200, and 5600U's retail at around $250. If you paid $200 or over for your 4600, call PNY on their RMA shenaniganz. 😉

It is a downgrade but Dont Stress this card will play your DX9 games as good as a Ti4600.... New Shaders play a big role its not only AA and FSAA that make games run better or worse on cards its the faster shaders and newer versions of those.

Take 3Dmark2003 for example .. But only in the Battle for Proxycon text.

That test is simulating Shaders and lighting in what looks to be FSP games your FX5600 will run this test on par with a Ti4600 and better then a Ti4200 without AA or FSAA

anyway the older games will run worse newer games will run the same as a Ti4600

Both Cards will do CAD fine ? I?m using a Geforce2mx on the Cad machine at work no problem its more CPU and ram that make Autocad / Microstation run better and maybe more Video Memory : )

As for now the only DX9 game out is Gun metal but i bet if you play that on the Ti4600 and then on the FX 5600 you'l see it run the same or maybe better on the FX 5600

Damm, I hope my ti4400 doesn't break , they'd prob. send me a 5200. 🙁

I'd demand a 5900U at the very least !!!!! j/k

But yes, you got ripped....

Good Luck
Regards,
Jose
