will i see i big performance difference? i bought the msi ti4200 vtd8x last month. i can still return it and exchange for the radeon 9500 pro for an additional $ 70 CAD. do you think it is worth it?

Personally, I don't think it is. Have you tried overclocking your Ti4200 yet? Mine hit 305/625 on stock cooling! :Q That's close to a ti4600!

THe 9500 pro is a great card, but if you are just playing older games the upgrade isnt worth it. If you plan on playing dx9 games(half life 2) the upgrade would be definitely recomended. Id say it is worth the 70 bucks for sure. You can overclock the 9500 pro as well i believe you just need to do a little soft mod to accomplish it.

yeah ive overclocked mine to 300/600 on stock cooling. do you need to softmod it to overclock it? i didn't know that. im looking forward to half-life 2, doom 3 and getting high scores in 3dmark. i love action games. do you think a ti4200@300/600 will make much of a difference than a radeon 9500 pro?

maintaining his steady 50 PPD.

ROFL😀😛

no really, shady is very informative when he elaborates on his opinions.

anyways, about the video card. the 9500pro is definitely better than the Ti4200 if you're going to be playing upcoming DX9 games. but if you're really investing for the future and have a little extra $, get a new 9800XT or 9800pro, or even try to find a 9800np or 9700pro in the FS/T forum or ebay. if you're not investing for the future, and all you play is DX8 games, the performance increase of the 9500pro over the Ti4200 won't justify the price difference of $70.

Will you see a big difference? If you play mostly without AA/AF then there will be a very marginal performance difference (especially if the Ti4200 is overclocked). However, the 9500 Pro has all-important DirectX9 support, so it will run Half Life 2 (among other future games) with all eye candy on. As well as Halo, etc.

In my opinion, it's worth the extra $70 CDN (~$50 US). Btw, where in Canada did you buy that card where you can return it after a month and exchange it for a different card?

Of course the 9500pro will run with all the eyecandy on, but at what framerate? Personally, I would wait until these games you are upgrading for are actually out before buying a card specifically to run them. Cards will be cheaper then anyway and an overclocked ti4200 is a good card for today's games.

no i mean, after a few weeks i can't return it anymore. i can't wait for the games to arrive because of the limited time. i have to return it now and pay 70 bucks to get the radeon 9500 pro. or i can save 20 bucks, pay only 50 bucks and get the radeon 9600 pro. what do you think?

Not "nuff" said... DX9 at butt slow speed.
DO NOT BUY A CARD FOR IT'S DX9 CAPABILITIES RIGHT NOW
NV40 and R400 cores are DX9 cores... the cards right now, especially ATI's XT and nVivida's new one are only to milk even more money out of you before you upgrade to a REAL DX9 card next spring/summer.

I'd stay with the 4200 for now, unless you have an urge to play with some FSAA on in DX9 games. Like Jeff said, the R400 and NV40 chips will be the DX9 powerhouses. 🙂

Stick with your ti4200 which can play 99% of games available right now at very playable frame rates. Like some people here I'm waiting for the next generation of dx9 video cards before I upgrade! 🙂

I agree with the last 3 posts. I'm personally waiting as well, and I have a Ti4200 too. But, that being said, hell, it's just money. How important is $70 to ya? It's a deal-breaker for me @ the moment since I'm barely squeezing by, but if you can spare it, go for it, and sell the card next spring to help defray the cost of an R400.
