Ti4200 - DX9?

from what i have experience, i had a chaintech ti4200-8x and installing dx9 didn't slow down anything. i didnt see much of a performance change, but it felt better to have dx9 because its the newest. :-/ other than that, nothing will go wrong or slow down.

I have a Gainward TI4200 128mb and have noticed no performance difference between DX8.1 and
DX9. I had to install it because Freelancer required it.

When I had my GF2 Ti I installed DX9 and had zero problems, you never know when a game will need it or when you`ll upgrade like I did to a 9700NP 😉.

It doesn't hurt to install it. It shouldn't affect your performance and some games require it even if your video card can't take advatage of the dx9 features.

Actually you can play Freelancer with DirectX 8.1 😀

I know, I played it and I had only DX8.1

These games probably don't use DX9, but the company that made it felt the need to get the latest DX just in case. GTA VIce City requires DX9, but it doesn't use any DX9 features.

FYI, DirectX includes not only Direct3D but also the rest of the DirectX components (sound, input, etc.). So while a game may not require D3D9, it may have been developed with the non-graphics part of DX9 in mind. At any rate, DX9 shouldn't really affect performance. Install it when you need to, but there's no sense in fixing something that ain't broke.
