TI200 vs. 9600 Pro

I used to have a p3-866 with a geforce3 TI200. I upgraded to a p4-2.4 (800). I have 1g RAM and fast hard drives. The only thing I haven't touched is my video card. I mostly play MOH and now COD. It all runs fine, but I have been on the fence about upgrading to a 9600. How much faster is the 9600 than the ti200? Will I see a speed increase? I think having a DX9 card would be nice as well.

The rule I follow is "if the games "I" want to play will run fine on the graphics card I have with the options turned on that I want, then I wont upgrade"

If you are satisfied currently, wait until you buy and play a game that you cant run happily... then buy a new gfx card.

If you're happy with your current card, then I see no reason to upgrade. Having a dx9 card might be nice, but if you don't play any dx9 games right now what is the use? I'd upgrade when you come across a game your card can't play at a satisfactory level.

Whats your 2001 3dmark score....I would think it would be a pretty decant improvement.

My bros Ti4200 64mb score 5500 with 1.2mhz AMD......my ATI 9600pro with 2500xp AMD at 190x11 scores 11550.

The newer cards like the 9600pro tend to have much better 2D display quality than a lot of the older cards, so that may be a good reason to upgrade too.

Well, I got 13,000 3dmarks with my 64MB Ti4200 @ 300/600 and a P4 2.4C @ 3.1 so it's definately not a night and day difference.

The 9600Pro is faster than the Ti4200 (about 15-25%, a bit less when both are overclocked), however the 9600Pro supports DirectX9, which the Ti4200 does not.

If you can get the Ti4200 for, say $75 then I'd go for that over a ~$150 9600 Pro. However if the prices are closer, I'd recommend the 9600 Pro. It's more future proof and a bit faster.

Also, if you want to play with AA or AF on, the 9600Pro is much faster. This is especially helpful with older games.
