I just built a new comp and put a ti 200 inside. here are the specs: abit kg7 raid, pny ti200, hercules muse xl (sound), athlon xp 1800+, 2x 256 ddr, maxtor dimond plus 65, pioneer 16x dvd, realtek ethernet card, windows xp pro. everything runs smoothly, there are no lock ups or crashes, but theres something wrong with the video quality. when at the lowest res. 800x600 and 16 bit, u can easily see the "layers" of colors in all desktop backgrounds (its hard to explain wut i mean by layers hopefuly u know wut i mean, im talking about hte shading) also in many games, lets say the metalic menus in red faction its clearly visible there, also snowwy hills in commandos 2, the most serious examples is where itd be least expected, in the game that acutaly came with the card to show its capabilities- giants citizen kabuto, there VERY often far away mounaints out right flash, blink and turn black, same applies to character shadows which also sometimes simply turn into a square blocks under the characters. i installed the latest detonator drivers as well as vias agp miniport, the problem is less visible on the desktop when i crank it up to 32 bit and high res but its annoying in games. is this win xp incompatibility? if not then what?
please answer.:(

Sounds like you have an out of alignment electron gun or shadow mask on your CRT. Try a different monitor.

The color-banding that you describe only happens in 800x600 + 16-bit? A 16-bit framebuffer + 16-bit Z-buffer might make for some nasty gradation in colors, but it seems odd that it only happens in that resolution. The Z-buffer would explain the flashing artifacts from Z-fighting or a less precise far clipping plane. I would stick to 32-bit color at those resolutions, as the Ti 200 has plenty of fill-rate, so you won't get any slowdown.

Have you tried updating your drivers? Try the latest WHQL 21.80's.

Also, try disabling V-sync and upping your refresh rate to at least 75hz.

no no, u misunderstood, this takes place at all resolutions and 32 bit, although less visible since everything is smaller, but nevertheless, if u look closely and know that its there, u can see. and in games which i rarely play and very high res it looks ugly. although i want to point out that i do only notice it only in 2D, in 3D all the colors r nice and sharp.

and yes i have the very latest detonator xp drivers, 21.83 i believe.

ref rates r set to 75MHZ
