I know the titanium has more flash and a usb port and a newer stupid looking case.

But other than that is there ANY difference? specifically I'm interested in whether a vanilla 89 can do all the fancy solving stuff of the titanium.

is the built-in calculating software (the OS) identical?

I'm almost positive that the OS is identical. It's basically the same thing as the differences between the 92+ and the V200. (That is, functionality differences that don't affect the calc's math abilities :p)

If you're referring to what I think you are, then that interface is available on the "old" 89's too, as long as you upgrade the firmware. :)

Yeah, basically the only difference is that if you have a really old 89 (one that's not Hardware Revision 2), then you won't have the real-time clock I think, but that's not really that important on a calculator. :p

In any case, to my knowledge the first hardware revision hasn't been produced for several years now anyway...

Does the regular TI89 have the EE package and whatnot? My friend was showing me all kinds of helpful stuff on his Titanium, and I don't remember such things on a regular TI89.

Yes, the regular has the EE package. IIRC it was the first one they ever made for it. Oh, and my 89 has menus. F1 through F8. I bought it when they first came out, and only flashed it once very close to when I first bought it. Are you talking about new cooler menus?

It doesn't have it preloaded. But go to the TI website and you can download it free! They try to make you pay for it but I found another link on their site where I downloaded it. I would recommend upgrading the OS software first and that will give you the updated menu.

Also, the big difference between the two is the titanium has more memory. I don't know exactly how much but with a fresh format my 89 can't hold EE pro and ME pro. But my friend's titanium has EE pro, ME pro and a ton of games.
