ti-89 titanium worth $140?

the highest math class I'm "planning" on taking is calculus and maybe business math... but who knows for sure.

it's $140 at costco


I currently have a ti-83 silver..
 
you won't be using a ti-89 for business math. you'll probably by a ti-ba something for financial equations
 
I just got a TI-89 (non-titanium) for $80 on ebay. It includes a data cable, so I doubt it is stolen or anything. That would be much cheaper than getting a Titanium. But for your math, a TI83 should suffice, to be honest. Introductory calculus isn't very computational, but symbolic.
 
Probably not. If you didn't already have a calculator, then probably. But if you already have an 83, it seems pointless to drop another $140.

Yeah. No need for anything more then the TI-83 if you're going to stop at Calculus and business level math.
 
Check ebay, I got my regular 89 for $65 there(used). The ti-89 is especially nice since it has "pretty print" that looks the way you write equations, plus it does symbolic integrals/derivatives.

For the price theres not much useful difference in the titanium over the old 89.
 
Like others have said, I don't imagine you'll need an 89 if you already have a 83+. I used an 85 during calc, 83+ during stats and a BA II Plus during financial.
 
Keep the 83 Silver - an 89 will only be substantially more useful in upper tier mathematics (Calculus 3, differential eq, etc)
 
Dude, Ti89 Titanium is so worth $140/sheet!!! That stuff is weatherproof, rustproof, bulletproof (up to .357 ++P caliber)...essentially, it's impenetrable!!!

If you laminate you skull in it, the eivl professor won't be able to get the evil thoughts across the spectrum and into your mind!!!! Do it!
 
you *might* need to use a caculator for calc 1, but even if you do, a very basic calc is enough. a scientific will do, or just use your Ti-83, to help you w/ the graphs.

but most likely, a calculator wont be allowed on exams, because calc 1 tests to make sure you know how to draw the graphs, and makes sure you know how to apply the techniques, so most likely, the prof will use very simple numbers, to not waste time.
 
I love the 89, and personally can't stand the 83 in comparison.

But I would say the 89 is for engineers or professions of a scientific nature. It is a nice product. It can even solve some diff EQ's for ya. But if money is an object, I recommend staying with the 83...particularly if you are just starting your math studies.

is this like equation solver for the regular 83... where you have to have 0 on one side or whatever?

i need a calculator to do division now

i have become way too dependent on them, seeing as i havent done math by hand in 5 years, we did it all on a calc or a comp in college
