Ohhh!!! I'm sooo tempted, but I really want a 92Plus. Does anyone know if the 89 is binary compatible with the 92Plus? ie software for a 89 will work with a 92Plus?

TI-89 retail price is $190? That's a bit steep, in my opinion. Very tempting but I won't be in school for long.

lol. I remember when I got my 89 for $108 a year ago off one of the big TI websites... Too bad they don't sell them anymore though.

HP calculators are the only way to go if real work needs to be done with them ... you gotta love the stack ;-)

HPs aren't as user friendly but they have those neat infra-red transmitters where you can communicate between two calculators. Great for tests! :D Well I think those were HPs, if my memory serves me correctly.

Gotta agree about the HP, I've had my 48G for five years now and it is great. It's not as user friendly, but there are many functions available. The stack is also a very nice feature. Although TI89 has a cut and paste option which I just found out about which could serve similar purpose for the work one is taking on.

Anyone want my TI-89. Got mine free. Here's how you get in on this "hot deal." Join the Army, sacrifice your body for your country, and when you start having medical problems go to the quacks at the Army hospital. After they misdiagnose you for 5 years and you have permanent damage, get out of the service, file for VA disability and get in on the VA Vocational Rehabilitation program. THEN enroll in a class that requires a TI-89 and they'll buy it for you... hmmm... not such a hot deal after all. Maybe y'all should finish college without uncle Sam instead.

Tell you what. I'll do this right and post it in For Sale/Trade when I get home from work. I just wanted to vent. You know us cranky old disabled vets...

This is by no means a "hot deal." At the start of last quarter, I bought a TI-89+ for $109.99 at the college bookstore. It's vastly improved over the standard TI-89.

I believe there was a TI-83+, but there was never a TI-89+. At least not yet. The TI-89 has the same functionality of the TI-92 Plus without geometry. I got mine for $100 from the For Sale forum a few months ago.

Kriol,

The TI-89 does full symbolic calculus, which is very useful if you're taking a series of calculus classes or beyond. Back when I was in school, I had to use a little HP 200LX palmtop 8088 computer with Derive software to get the same results. It's amazing how much calculator technology has advanced just in the past few years.

Here's a way to get a graphing calculator cheap. At college a lot of students don't need their graphing calculators like they did in highschool unless they are engineers or something. I was never allowed to take any in my calculus classes and I only used one to write small notes on :). So look around on college newsgroups or bulletin boards I *always* see someone trying to get rid of a graphing calculator.
