TI-89 question...

How come whenever I put in an equation with pi in it, it doesn't give me a decimal number as an answer? For example, I just put in 54 x pi, and the answer it gave me was 54 x pi. Uhhh... wow, really? I looked in my settings for something to change but I have no idea. Does anyone know how to change this?

TI-89 defaults to exact answer mode.

Hit Mode -> go to the second page (F2) -> change Exact/Approx to Approximate. Or alpha -> enter works. I generally find I only need exact when doing derivatives and intergrals.

if you know you're going to get a decimal (such as working with fractions) I just use like 54.*pi or 54./32
with the decimal it will output approx - diamond-enter works too tho
