Well I thought the Pentium 4 would suck clock for clock vs AMD CPus but
not so.. check this:

http://www.classicgaming.com/mame32qa/mamew_bench.htm

I know they are not measuring clock for clock here because its an
AMD1.3GHz CPU vs Pentium 1.5Ghz columns for closest match.

But in the MAME32 emulated game Do Don Pachi its 226fps vs 161fps.

The Athlon pulls it back in Donkey Kong and wastes the P4 by doing
733fps vs 547 (who plays Donkey kong nowadays ? :p )

P4 trounces over the Athlon again with: 530 fps vs 346 fps in Invaders.

Also check out the scores for The Simpsons, R-Type and Street Fighters,
the AMD takes a beating.

Imagine what would happen if they used SSE2 instructions ?

Anyway the P4 aint bad clock for clock and things can only get better
when they double the cache.

Overall averages show the P4 1.5GHz to yield 268FPS vs. 264FPS from the 1.2GHz T-Bird.... so overall that tends to be fairly representative with slight variations to the norm in which a 1.2GHz T-Bird tends to barely beat out a P4 1.5GHz.

No I think what you mean is the 1.2 TBird loses slightly to the P4 1.5 and the 1.3 Tbird slightly beats the P4 1.5 :) at least thats what I gather from the averages.

What I find interesting is this code in theory should be the hardest for the P4 to handle in comparison I would think.

I LOVE Donkey Kong! I remember the thrill of making it to the conveyor belts on just one quarter! Mame is pretty cool stuff.

Yes this type of code should be the strong for the AMD since it has much larger cache size than the
P4 and emulation is all about repetitive op code mapping etc.

Probably a fluke the AMD does so well in PACMAN thereby pulling up its average :D some guy must have
optimized the driver for pacman to run well on AMD processors. I prefer Street Fighter Alpha LOL

Anyway If you ignore the Averages as the PACMAN score pulls it back dramatically for the AMD
you have and you might say its using optimised drivers:

Pentium 4 1.5Ghz wins 21 vs 1.3Ghz Athlon wins 5
