i was thinking about getting a 700 mhz amd cpu, and watercooling it and overclocking it to 900 or 1000 mhz, if possible. my question is, which one should i get, duron or thunderbird? what are the differences between them?

thunderbird is faster. if you have cash, get it. Duron has 64k L2 cache, thunderbird has 256k L2.

Here are a couple of articles comparing overclocking the two:

Very good with lots of benchmarks.

Overclockers has only recently begun to pay serious attention to AMD and, while the article is good, they still are learning how to work with an AMD cpu vs. Intel cpu.

Also, the motherboard and memory will make a difference in how successful you are.
