I know this has been beat around a lot before, but I never really paid much attention to it. I have a duron 600 that will run at 950 but i usually run it at 900. I am selling a case and building a system for someone. They want a duron so I could sell mine if needed. What do you guys think about buying a 1 ghz thunderbird? Would I see much of an improvement? Also are all 1 ghz thunderbirds copper? If not is there a place where I can get a copper on if requested? I need to know what I can expect it to overclock to reasonably. Thanks!

I am also interested to here the answer to your question, because I have a Duron 650 and I just ordered a 1Ghz Tbird. So thats a pretty nice coincidence that me and you are almost in the same situation.

I think it really depends on what you're doing. If you are doing tasks that are CPU intensive, then you may notice a difference. However, if you just do basic tasks, you could probably care less.

from what I have read in the past and seen myself a t-bird performs on par with a duron that is clocked 100-150mhz faster. So a 1gig t-bird is on the same performance level as a duron running at 1100-1150mhz. As for them being all copper yes.. I think there was a mention of it in one of Anand's reviews stating that all t-birds produced over 900mhz were made with copper instead of aluminum. The only bad thing is t-birds can be overclocked but they just don't seem to get the same spread as durons do. A duron 600 can go to 1000 alot of the time and I can get a t-bird 700 to about 900-950. Performance wise the t-bird@950 will outperform the duron at 1000 but you are spending $30-$40 more for that performance. So it's up to you to decide. Also the higher you go in a t-bird specified mhz the less overclockable it is, ie. a 700 can hit 900-950 while a 1gig can hit 1.1gig but the 700 is under $100 while the 1gig is just under $300

In terms of how the Duron performs compared to the TBird, the Duron is about 95% the speed of a TBird at lower clocks and 90% the speed of a TBird at higher clocks. Above 950MHz, the Duron doens't get much faster since it has the smaller cache.

Just to inform you, the 1Ghz Tbird is now only $176. So for all of you out there, I suggest getting 1 just like I have. :)
