HELP ME! I'm giving my beloved Fujitsu laptop to my sister, but I'd like to preserve my emails from thunderbird. Is there a way to back them up and add them to another computer just as they are? (Right now they are organized in a number of different folders)

EDITTT: Problem is now that I have a mac and I dont know what to do. Where do I put my copied backup folder full of profile crap?

Save This Folder. That's where your mail is stored. You can paste the contents into the profile folder of the computer you are migrating to. Just make sure to have Thunderbird installed first of course.

Yes, it's really, really easy. In fact, I'm doing it today. If you're using XP, it's right here:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Thunderbird

After closing Thunderbird, just copy the entire Thunderbird folder to a CD, burn, and then drag-and-drop to your new computer (make sure Tbird is installed on there too). Or right-click and zip it up and send it to your gmail account, a thumbdrive, network file server, whatever. Man I love Tbird :)

Note - to see the Application Data folder, you'll have to enable View Hidden Folders and Files in the folder options.

Importing to Thunderbird on the Mac or a different program? If different, please specify which one.

Somewhere under ~/Library (~/ being your home directory). I'm not at home and don't have access to my PB or mini, so I don't know the exact location...

For user specific application configurations each OS has a directory/directories to store them. In windows it's something like C:/documents and settings/username/Application data. In Mac OS X it's ~/Library. In general unix and unix-like systems it's usually just ~/ (with other directories holding each application's configuration if necessary).
