Thunderbird issues to transfer files and settings from win2k thunderbird to win XP thunderbird
I copy the folder "Profiles" from the default ID in win2k to default ID in win XP "profiles" Thunderbird does not notice them, and acts like they are absent.

Both are under the same user ID and both are set to default
I want to use my e-mail address IDs and addresses and in box mail and sent mail and the junk mail wisdom...

Have you tried selecting Tools>Import from inside Thunderbird and loading the files from there?

That may work in outlook but it never works in thunderbird. You have not tried it have you? You can import from all but thunderbird funny they did not think of it. they say copy the folder "profile" from old to new thunderbird. I did that and it is not working.

I am having a similar problem... I need to manually import a single thunderbird folder into my profile and it won't show up...

on another profile, I need to rename two folders that are REFUSING to take a name change and it is embarrasing the hell out of me... I need to learn more on mbox STAT

when I tried to copy these folders from win2k pro to win XP pro they worked fine, but since I have winXP fresh install on one hard drive, and I had over written win2k pro with winXP pro on the original drive (formerly win2k Pro partition), the original thunderbird files no longer show up even though they are in the correct folder in winXP pro fresh installed

You should be able to edit the profiles.ini file to make sure it is pointing to the correct profile. If this doesn't work, you can always create a new profile and add the stuff you need to it from the old one - example:

profile\mail\local folders = all your local folders (if using imap)
abook.mab - address book
history.mab - collected addresses you've used

And so on. It shouldn't be nec. to copy the entire profile over.

However I made it work by making sure that I changed the user name I had changed in the new setup back to the same user name that the old Thunderbird knew me as, and that definately works!!!

It's all about C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Thunderbird

I recently moved computers (both xp) and this is pretty much it. The catch is that the paths referenced in the directory must be the same. You might have to edit them if they aren't. I forgot exactly where but when I was researching this problem there were detailed instructions in the thunderbird community. But again, moving that App Data directory and making sure the paths are the same in files referenced in there you will be good.

not just paths also the user has to have the same name since I use 3 it gave me trouble untill I changed the name to what it was in the old version
