I found another link - the accident report was released on Jan 21 2004, so I'm guessing 2003
 
At least he had the guts to ensure his plane wasn't going to hit anyone before punching out.
 
At least they carry 2 spare planes. He could've got right back up and tried it again (Well, more likely the ground crew wouldn't let him anywhere near a plane)
 
One would figure that the computer guidance system would adjust the altimeter to compensate for ground elevation on-the-fly...

They were here for the AF Academy graduation, and stayed over for an air show tomorrow @ Peterson AFB
