I was configuring my Microsoft outlook the other day and noticed that i was unable to send mail, yet i recieved mail from my inbox perfectly fine. Thinking that outlooks was another crappy microsoft program, i decided to dload thunderbird. But what do you know...I had the same problem and this time this error message "Sending of message Failed. Unable to connect to SMPT server smpt.gmail.com The server might be down or maybe incorrectly configured. Please varify that your mail/news account settings are correct and try again."(Thunderbird message) I checked everything including port #'s but what should I do now? Could it be my firewall? and if so i have Symantec firewall. Any help is needed :)

Your ISP might also block outgoing connections to other SMTP servers - you may have to use your ISP's provided SMTP server.

Just a quick check. You typed smpt. I'm not sure if that's a typo, but it should be smtp.
