thunderbird 850 or some Intel processor ?

gustavo

Senior member
Would appreciate opinions about a thunderbird 850 i am considering to purchase;
I am really scared about the high temperature risks comparing it to an intel
processor (Pentium 3 or even celeron).

Here in my country a little market, the best platform is an MSI 6330 lite (KT 133 chipset), but on the intel side we have 694x and intel 815E choices.

Do the intel processors last longer than thunders ? I mean with no overclocking ??
Why so short warranty AMD provides (60 days vs 3 years from Intel)

What would you do?
Many thanks Gustavo

The warranty on that AMD is probably an OEM. Boxed AMD processors have a much longer warranty. As for which one, you'll find thousands of posts debating AMD vs Intel. So do a search for them

AMD also provides a 3 year warrenty for thier "retail" versions of thier cpus.

If warrenty is important to you, make sure you by the proccessors in the company BOX with the hsfan already installed.

As for which is better? Ill keep my opinions to myself as im sure my views would be, unpopular.

Take the above advice and search.

I think you can not go wrong going with either an AMD or Intel product. You have not indicated how you intend to use the computer or where you live but here in the U.S. AMD offers more performance for the money.

Concerning the Tbird heat issue, get a good fan\heat sink. I am using a Global Win and my 1.33 gHz typically stays between 27 to 35 degrees Celsius and it is 90s (F) today.

In terms of links, what specifically are you looking for?

Links to serious technical comparisons, my country is Uruguay (South America) AMD seems much cheaper than Intel, and that is what makes raise doubts, in terms of price I have to compare the Athlon Thunderbird 850 against the Celeron 800 (aprox same price). In terms of platform the chipstes available are the KT133 for the athlon and the VIA 694X or Intel 815 to the celeron.

To make it short giving the choices depicted, same price what is the best one ?
