Thunderbird 1.2GHz

I'm about to upgrade my trusty PII400 system to a Thunderbird 1.2GHz.

I was hoping that someone could tell me what heatsink the retail CPU is packaged with.

Also, I was hoping to get a KT-133A (Abit) and overclock the CPU just a bit However, I want to get a native TBird 1.2GHz @ 133Mhz. This way, I won't have to stuff around with the CPU and heatsink yada yada yada. I won't mind doing it later on, just not when it's new thanks!

So how high can I expect to push this T-Bird@1.2GHz (I was hoping on getting it to FSB of 144 at least with Kingmax PC150 RAM - that does work with the KT133A mobos, right?

I believe the stock HSF in a retail box is The Taisol 733.

Good luck finding a 133MHz FSB T-Bird! Also, if you're going to overclock that thing, you will want a very good HSF, FOP32, FOP38 or Taisol CGK742092 (I say go with the Taisol).

I read somewhere that 133 MHz FSB processors will become widely available on January 26. In the meantime, you can always buy regular 1.2 GHz and unlock the multiplier.

How far can I realistically expect to overclock this thing with air cooling only?

Hmmmm.... you may rapidly approach the T-bird's limit. I've seen reports of maybe 1.3Ghz, particularly since I believe the > 1Ghz are copper (blue) core... 1.4 stable would be tricky if even do-able.

I was looking to buy a 1.2 t-bird and came across a sight that shows there will be 1.3 t-bird. Actually it said something like 1.337. But it said they were expected in mid March, but It also said the new 1.2 (266 fsb.) would'nt be available til mid Feb. Again those are just estimated dates. Ijust don't understand what diff this could make for the money because the 1.2 could always handle the bus speed, just the chipset could'nt.

Yeah, that's fair enough I suppose.

The only reason I wanted a 1.2GHz was that even if I couldn't overclock too far, at least I was guaranteed 1.2GHz. Not so with the 1GHz TBird...

Just to let ya know 1.2 Tbirds come unlocked and will do 13XX mhz.For cooling,you will have better luck with the FOP 32 or 38,the clip on Tai-sol is a hassel and the larger Tai-sol you will need,is a tight fit.The FOP 38 is loud but cools great.The FOP 32 & 38 have no clearance problems.In my opinion all fan clips fit too tight,so i loosen them a little as not to overstress the CPU.

The Black Label Delta fan on the FOP38 is very, very loud. I just got mine today. I can hear the thing over loud music!

all the 1.2ghz are 100/133 FSB cpus
the cpu's come multipler unlocked from factory so you can do either bus speed and multiplier up to 12.5 you want..

No they are not 100/133 fsb. They are 200 fsb or 100 ddr. True, the cpu can handle the 133 fsb if you make the changes with your multiplier. But the "official" 1.2 t-bird 266 are not out yet.
