Thunderbird 1.0 has arrived :)

Yup, it was one of the top headlines last night on my Yahoo news page. I'm just going to wait until one of Moox's optimized TB1.0 builds becomes available.

Isnt it available here?

might want to take 3 seconds to tell us what Thunderbird is so people who have never used it don't have to go searching...

I've been using FireFoz since it was called Phoenix and love it. I'm really tempted to go ahead with Thunderbird as well. Now my question is should I do 2 separate items (Moox FF & Moox TB) or just regular Mozilla (w/ both browser & mail). Suggestions?

I am a big fan of firefox as I had been using Mozilla 1.x.x for some time. I seem to like it better than the main Mozilla suite browser, but thunderbird is another thing altogether. I like the interface and operation thunderbird has, but I cannot import my mail from Mozilla. I could from OE, but now I'm stuck. Anyone know how to do this?

DaCurryman:

If you currently like Firefox and are interested in trying Thunderbird then just install Thunderbird. The Mozilla suite is towards bloat and FF + TB are replacing it. I happen to use Thunderbird for my email but Opera for my browser...I used to use mozilla mail and am glad I switched.

Thunderbird works great for me, and yesterday I saw a really cool idea:
Install it on a thumb drive!! It does not write anything to the registry, so in essence it will work fine. Even a 64MB drive will hold a ton of mail and attachments.
To get around the relaying problem, you can run putty off the same "drive" and set up a quick tunnel through to an relay-approved host.
It would be pretty cool..... Just a minute, I've got to check mail <pops in thumb drive>

wow, you beat me to it!! let us know how it works for you.

I found this: Portable Thunderbird and Firefox

Someone has modified the 1.0 releases for TB and Firefox specifically to run on USB or external drivers. I extracted the zip to my USB drive, ran Portable Thunderbird.exe, added a few accounts and DL'ed several messages.

It works great. All the email messages, profiles, and settings are installed under the Thunderbird directory on the USB drive, not on the local hard drive.
